New York (AP) New York’s New York City FC won its fifth straight home playoff game, defeating the Houston Dynamo, 4-3, in a penalty shootout Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
The game began with the New York team trailing 3-2 in the 11th minute.
New York scored its first goal on a cross from defender Carlos Carmona.
It was the second of a four-minute, 58-second span.
Houston tied the score on a goal by goalkeeper Jake Gleeson in the 26th minute and scored on a rebound off the right post in the 27th minute by defender Omar Gonzalez.
The Dynamo came out with a vengeance in the second half and scored twice in the final 10 minutes.
The hosts scored four goals in the third half to put the game away.
The score was tied at 2-2 on the final score line.
New York is tied with Philadelphia for the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Yankees will host the New England Revolution in a pair of Eastern Conference semifinals on Saturday at Yankee Memorial Stadium in Boston.
