Drivers who have never used a smartphone or a tablet can now get started on paying for car transportation by setting up an account on the online portal Sherpa Auto Transport.
The company says it has about 300,000 registered drivers in the United States.
It lets you set up the payment option, choose a car and pay using credit or debit cards, PayPal or any other payment method.
It also lets you check the status of your account and track your credit and debit cards balances.
If you choose to pay by credit card, Sherpa auto will charge you an annual fee of $99, according to the company’s website.
The company said it’s a small fee, and it’s not unusual for a car purchase to require payment by check or money order.
“You get a little bit of money back, so that’s a nice bonus,” said Joe Loughlin, a Sherpa driver who uses the service.
“But it’s also a little hassle to have to check your check to make sure you’re getting the money.”
Sherpa Auto has also started offering a car-sharing service.
The app lets drivers swap their vehicles on the Sherpa for others in the neighborhood.
Sherpa says it expects to add at least 10,000 new car-shares in the coming years, although the company said that number has increased slightly this year.
The company plans to expand its services into new markets in the next few months.
The launch of the service comes amid a wave of car-share programs, including Zipcar, Lyft and Uber, that have been rolled out in major cities around the country.
