A California-based Muslim civil rights group says it is suing President Donald Trump for a crackdown on Muslims and refugees, alleging that the president is violating the Constitution by denying people entry to the United States.
The U.S. Department of Justice and State Department say they have no authority to deny entry to citizens of the six Muslim-majority countries named in the lawsuit.
In the lawsuit, filed Monday in U.K. federal court, CAIR, which has about 3,500 chapters in the U. S., says the ban on Muslims from entering the country violates the First Amendment, equal protection and due process.
The group said it is also seeking to halt the implementation of the order and is asking the court to order the president to release the names of all the people who have been denied entry.
CAIR also said it will join with several other groups in the litigation in the next few weeks to fight for access to people who are currently being detained.
